Once upon a time, there was a man and woman who were both very lonely. Both had hearts that were broken, and they were in their late thirties when they married. They married each other thinking they could fill the emptiness in one another's hearts. They had a good marriage, but unfortunately the emptiness in their hearts was still there. They decided that children would end their loneliness. They tried to have children, but were unable to. They were now in their early forties, and they looked into the option of adoption. They wanted a newborn baby because they felt that way it would know only them as their parents. They found out that they would be put on a waiting list to adopt a newborn baby. They were asked if they had ever considered adopting an older child or a child of another race. They said "no" and went home very discouraged. The distance between the married couple grew once they got home, and two years later, the wife once again brought up the topic of adopting an older child or a child of another race. She told her husband that she had made an appointment to see the adoption agency to discuss this. He reluctantly agreed to go with her. When they arrived, a large book was brought out with pictures and information about older children needing homes. The woman was overwhelmed with emotion when she saw all of the children with the sad eyes. She looked at her husband, and he had tears in his eyes. Finally the lady showed them a picture of three children, ages 7, 12, and 16 who had been abandoned by their mother. The lady told them their story and said that they were smart, wonderful kids, but no one would adopt them because they needed to be adopted together, and there had been no one willing to take in three children. "I want to adopt those three children," the woman said. The man agreed with his wife, and now Jasmine, 16, Aaron, 12, and Christina, 7, have filled the hearts of the man and woman with joy, purpose, and love. Three children who were once thrown away by everyone around them now give the greatest gift of all to their parents, they've filled their hearts with happiness. |
